Derek Frank Live at The Chameleon

Sep 26th

Veteran Los Angeles bass player Derek Frank will be bringing his instrumental quintet to Spokane’s The Chameleon on September 26th as part of his first run of performances as a leader in the PNW. The bassist, who is mostly known as a touring bass player with Gwen Stefani, Shania Twain, and various other pop acts, will be leading his band in a run of dates over the Summer and Fall that will include (in addition to Oregon and Washington) Colorado, Florida, and California. In April of 2023, Derek performed with Shania Twain at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena to kick off her “Queen of Me” Tour.

Derek and his handpicked five-piece band blend funk, blues, soul, jazz, southern rock, and seventies soundtrack music into a genre all their own, and have earned favorable comparisons to bands/artists such as Lettuce, Vulfpeck, Cory Wong, Snarky Puppy, The Motet, The Meters, and John Scofield. Comprised of other oft-lauded musicians, his band features players who have performed with the likes of: Tedeschi Trucks Band, Social Distortion, Soul Asylum, Tom Morello, and Miley Cyrus, to name a few. His latest album Origin Story, released in March of this year, is playfully described as a collection of “seventies-inspired funky instrumental jams with fewer bass solos than you would expect”.
