The Cotton-Headed Ninny Muggins

Though our daylight hours are short, Spokane dazzles during the holidays. If you’re one of those people with Buddy the Elf-level enthusiasm for all the season has to offer, you’re in the right place.

"There's room for everyone on the Nice List!"

Whether you’re coming from out of town or in need of a staycation, checking in at the new NORTHERN QUEST RIVER TOWER in Airway Heights, with its beautifully — and meaningfully — appointed rooms, is sure to delight. Then take a picture-perfect stroll through Questmas, the on-site, free, family-friendly outdoor winter wonderland that runs thru December.

Be sure to arrive hungry if you choose the DOUBLETREE BY HILTON in Spokane’s city center. Freshen up in a river view room, then prepare to be wowed by the festive athmosphere at SPENCER’S. You’ll choose among USDA prime steaks, chops and seafood, as well as salads, decadent sides and sinful desserts. Then it’s a pleasant drive to Liberty Lake’s Orchard Park to bask in the holiday lights at the free WINTER GLOW SPECTACULAR, Nov. 23-Jan. 1.

The next day, it’s time to do some holiday shopping. RITTERS is your northside one-stop stop for holiday greenery, planters and so much more — from the tastefully curated selection of ornaments and decor to thoughtful gifts. East of downtown, at OLD WORLD CHRISTMAS FACTORY OUTLET, prepare to be stunned at the hundreds of hand-crafted, blown-glass ornaments, all at splendid prices.

Then head over to Browne’s Addition for a trip back in time at CAMPBELL HOUSE HOLIDAYS, open Dec. 19-22. Enjoy the holiday decorations at the spectacular historic home and mingle with living history characters as they go about their tasks to prepare the Campbell family’s circa 1910 Christmas celebration.

On the South Hill, you’ll find yet another magnificent light display from Dec. 14-22. MANITO HOLIDAY LIGHTS is all about celebrating the holiday season “with an abundance of lights, laughter and community spirit,” notes event founder Kelly Brown. “It’s all about a leisurely walk through the illuminated wonderland.”

After a busy day, maybe it’s time for some ice cream from the scoop, both downtown and on the South Hill. Or settle in for some tasty bites and perhaps a peppermint schnapps at BISTANGO. The suave martini lounge not only features top-notch beverages, but also upscale food, all in an elegant setting that’s perfect for recharging your holiday batteries.
