Opportunities abound if you’re looking for a sophisticated holiday weekend filled with great food and fine wine, authentic shopping, and memorable live performances. Check in downtown at HOTEL INDIGO, where you’ll find all the cozy comforts of a modern hotel, housed in a majestic historic building. The hotel’s Magnolia restaurant serves up inspired American cuisine as well as handcrafted cocktails.

New Year’s Eve will surely be memorable and joyful if it includes the Spokane Symphony and Symphony Chorale’s inspiring BEETHOVEN’s NINTH SYMPHONY at the Martin Woldson Theater at the Fox. Another not-to-be-missed holiday tradition is the Symphony’s performance of HANDEL’S MESSIAH at the historic St. John’s Cathedral, Nov. 16-18, also featuring the Chorale.

Guests at downtown’s DAVENPORT GRAND HOTEL will instantly be immersed in the vibrant lobby scene with hors d’oeuvres at the Grand Restaurant and Lounge or step into the softly lit and elegant Table 13, with eclectic cuisine featuring local ingredients. And after dining, walk across the street to the First Interstate Center for the Arts. On Nov. 23, celebrate America’s favorite Christmas tradition THE NUTCRACKER with an international all-star cast that blends world class ballet with whimsical puppets, lavish costumes and stunning acrobatics.

Fuel up for a day of the good life with a stop at FIRST AVENUE COFFEE, where you’ll find earth-friendly coffee beverages and an in-house bakery dedicated to gluten-free, vegan and keto treats. (They also offer up gluten-containing treats from a separate bakery.)

The SPRAGUE UNION DISTRICT just east of downtown includes six vintage shops, two furniture stores, four restaurants and three coffee shops. It underwent a $7 million civic revitalization, says the district’s Executive Director LaVerne Biel, and it’s ready to show off. “We want to have people come down and eat and enjoy our district and know that it’s a safe environment.”

On Dec. 1, see the lit-up streetscape’s holiday magic revealed. On Dec. 2, Biel recommends “Holiday on the Ave,” a celebration featuring live music and various contributions from all the district’s businesses.

At TERRAIN ART GALLERY on North Monroe, the emphasis is on displaying works of Spokane’s diverse community of local artists.
